An ambitious three year programme of activity
This Girl Codes includes a series of taster sessions, pop-up heritage STEAM* labs in historic houses, castles and caves as well as festivals, trips and events during school holidays. Participants will engage with innovative digital technologies and work with professional artists, discovering new and authentic forms of heritage interaction at the convergence of history, art, tech and science.
From Margaret Cavendish to Bess of Hardwick and Ada Lovelace, we will use regional and national women’s heritage stories to open up local historic sites for disadvantaged community groups and young people. Women and girls will take ownership of local heritage and connect with remarkable voices that are relevant to their own lives.
This Girl Codes (2020-2022) is funded through the People’s Postcode Trust and National Lottery Heritage Fund, following the success of the project in 2017 and 2018.
*STEAM incorporates the arts into STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – encouraging people to innovate and create amazing things.
